Flexibility -- The Cosmic Process

Less than two years ago our world experienced the result of an expanded consciousness – a woman commander was at the controls of the space shuttle Columbia for a quick trip to orbit in order to drop off the world’s most powerful X-ray telescope. Even though she did not land on the moon, one could say, “one small step for women, one giant leap for humanity!” Indeed, a giant leap in changing the belief that only men could be capable astronauts lead the way for the cosmic process to reveal Itself in a new way.

It seems that every change that moves the world forward in a significant way takes great flexibility. Recently someone said to me, “Flexibility means more than just touching your toes!” Flexibility calls for the ability to adapt, to adjust or be able to bend (first in thought) without breaking. In truth, the Cosmic Process of continual growth and change cannot take place unless it is able to find an outlet, and human beings are one way God is able to move creative ideas from the invisible to the visible. Congratulations to those at NASA who were flexible enough to think outside the box and allow the revolutionary event of a woman piloting a space shuttle!

The key to allow more flexibility in our individual lives is to accept ourselves as a vital part of the Cosmic Process. We formerly thought of ourselves as just a part of life on planet earth, i.e., there were not many people in 1899 who dreamed of going to the moon! Yet, our modes of transportation have changed from the horse and buggy to computerized automobiles. The Wright brothers were told they would never get that contraption off the ground, but the Cosmic Process of a Divine Idea prevailed. Today, the Concorde takes one from the United States to London in mere hours, men have been to the moon and back, satellites have been launched for all sorts of communication, and we have an international space station that has been manned for exploration and greater discoveries. Are we flexible enough to think that one day the nearest constellations will be contacted?

In addition to these changes, there have been tremendous advances in science, medicine, education, religions and the arts too numerous to name. The new millenium has arrived! We are being called to a greater awareness of the Cosmic Process and the ability to be mentally and emotionally flexible enough to live from that larger premise.

The earth, in the cosmic scheme of things, is merely a base of operations in a much larger picture. Divine Mind lies in sweet repose awaiting our recognition that there is more to be conceived, experienced and enjoyed! In 1 Corinthians 2:9 it is written, “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him”.

The adjustment from merely thinking from the narrow mind of our humanity to the open Mind of our Divinity isn’t always easy. However, if we want to be in the Cosmic Process, we will live in the consciousness of possibilities. Ask yourself, “Is my thinking up to date? Do I use yesterday as a yardstick for today? Where do I refuse to be flexible or adaptable? Am I still resisting the computer and the worldwide web? What are the excuses and reasons I use to keep me from changing even the smallest things I know I really should?”

The individual mind is the point of origination that initiates the Cosmic Process. Let us not allow fear of change to keep us from improving our world. A willingness to shake up the habits that keep us in rigid patterns or that stifle creativity is a given.

Starting with simple changes is a good idea, i.e., brushing your hair with the opposite hand, sleeping on the other side of the bed, going somewhere on the spur of the moment if you must have reservations, etc. When you do your spiritual practices, open to the idea that God’s mind works through you revealing fresh, new creative ideas that bring wonderful changes for the better.

With flexibility and openness to possibilities, can you imagine what humanity may be able to conceive, believe and achieve in the next 100 years? For example, could it be that the continuing escalating costs of medicine and of health insurance is the call to use God’s Power to heal our own bodies? Is it a possibility that the telephone companies’ constant competition is simply a call to develop our innate ability to communicate, using mental telepathy? If we could read one another’s minds, it would certainly motivate us to think more about the good and to be more proactive! Could the shortage of gasoline and skyrocketing prices for travel evolve us to a quantum leap in consciousness and we’ll say, “Beam me up, Scotty”?

Truly, the new millennium has arrived, and we are the people who are the shakers and movers of an awakened world. I declare that we are flexible enough to enjoy the Cosmic Process by keeping our minds open and receptive to what’s possible and letting it be revealed in all of its splendor!
